SAGE
You may be asking yourself what is SAGE? SAGE stands for Sustainability via Active Garden Education. This is a free, garden base physical activity and nutrition program for early care and education sites that meet Arizona education and national NAEYC standards.
This program was bourght to Garden City Child Development Center by a research program from Arizona State University. A few personal from ASU Research Program came to Garden City to do Health Assessments on our children in the preschool classroom and built a garden for the preschool children to plant seeds.
If you approved your child to be apart of the SAGE program, those children took part in the Health Assessment. The health Assessment included different exercise activities, a food activity and a fruit and vegetable measuring test.
SAGE also provided Garden City with a garden curiculum. This curiculum with teach children about the health and nutrition fruits and vegetables provide for our bodies. The program will aslo allow the children to have some fun in the spring time by planting fruits and vegetables in the garden for Garden City. The fruits and vegetables that are grown in the garden, the children will get to try the food they have grown.
If your child is attending Garden City Child Development Center and would like you child to be able to partecipate in SAGE, please contact our Assistant Director Julie Smith and she will provide the information needed to join the program.
